As a Title VI National Resource Center in Latin American Studies, the Latin American Institute has committed to expanding offerings at UCLA of courses taught entirely or partially in Latin American languages. These $2,000 course development grants are intended to support the creation of such courses.
Eligibility:
- The course must be taught entirely or partially in Spanish or Portuguese.
- Undergraduate and graduate offerings are both eligible.
- Acceptable formats include (but are not limited to) a single-section course or seminar taught entirely in the target language; a single-section course with a weekly breakout group to discuss course topics in the target language; or a large lecture course with a discussion group conducted in the target language.
- Language (including linguistics) and literature/poetry/film courses are not eligible, as these are already routinely taught in Spanish/Portuguese.
Requirements:
- Course development should happen during the 2024-2025 academic year, with expected implementation during the 2025-2026 academic year. However, courses already in development that are scheduled for winter/spring 2025 may also be considered.
- The grant funds will be available once you submit the final syllabus to the LAI.
- Grants will be available as research funds, administered by the LAI, and must be spent by August 15, 2026.
