Steven Loza is Professor in the Department of Ethnomusicology. He has conducted extensive research on Latin American music, principally that of Mexico, Cuba, and Latinos in United States.

He is a consultant to the film industry and a member of the Grammy Awards National Screening Committee. He holds a Ph.D. in music from UCLA and is the author of Tito Puente and the Making of Latin Music and Barrio Rhythm: The Musical Life of Mexican Americans in Los Angeles.
