Could you tell us about your journey to UCLA?
My journey to UCLA began with a passion for networking and a desire to push the boundaries of what technology could do. Coming from Brazil, I was drawn to UCLA’s reputation as a global leader in computer science and telecommunications. The chance to work with visionary researchers like Professor Mario Gerla was an opportunity I couldn’t imagine. My time at UCLA was transformational—not only in terms of the technical skills but perspective and global friends.
What sort of opportunities has working abroad presented you with?
Working abroad has allowed me to contribute to large-scale, impactful projects in ways I couldn’t have imagined. From leading the deployment of a 10Gbps university network in Brazil to collaborating with European universities and organizations on next-generation cloud infrastructure (through international collaborations such as the FP7 FIBRE project and Horizon 2020 NECOS project), these opportunities have not only expanded my technical expertise but also my international leadership capability.
What would you say to a UCLA student who is planning on having an international career?
An international career can broaden your horizons in ways you can’t fully anticipate. Embrace the unknown, as it will enrich both your personal and professional life. UCLA is an incredible springboard, offering not only world-class education but also a global network of opportunities. Use your time at UCLA to collaborate with peers from different backgrounds, and engage in international projects when possible. Build connections, stay curious.
Are you involved in any international UCLA alumni groups or support networks?
Yes, I am actively involved with Bruin Angels do Brasil, an alumni-driven startup investment group. I participate in due diligence, interviews, and the selection of innovative startups. This involvement keeps me connected with fellow Bruins and engaged with UCLA's global presence while contributing to entrepreneurial growth. Our investments focus on startups with a social impact thesis like Resilia and QueroMeusDireitos.
