Over the past several months, the African Studies Center, the Asia Pacific Center and the International Institute have received generous gifts to support their operations and programs.

UCLA International Institute, April 8, 2021 — Over the past several months, the UCLA International Institute and its centers have received several generous gifts to support their operations.

In February, the African Studies Center received a generous gift of $250,000 from the estate of Dr. Elizabeth Woldemussie, to which the Chancellor’s Centennial Scholars Match Initiative added $125,000. The combined sum will create an endowed fund that promotes student research and public service in Africa.

Also in February, the Asia Pacific Center (APC) announced a gift of $2 million from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan through the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Organization-Los Angeles. The gift makes possible the creation of a new Taiwan in the World program and the establishment an endowment fund that will help permanently support APC's Taiwan Studies Program.

And in early April, the International Institute announced that the Ahmanson Foundation, based in Los Angeles County, has awarded it a grant to transform its two traditional meeting rooms into “Global Connection Labs” with the latest communications technology. Among other things, the grant will enable public events that combine the in-person and remote participation of scholars and experts.

The International Institute expresses its deep gratitude to all three donors: the Woldemussie family, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs/TECO-LA and the Ahmanson Foundation, respectively.
