About the Symposium:

Global Chinese Philanthropy (GCP) is at a pivotal moment of transition, facing both significant challenges and promising opportunities. The urgent need to rebuild trust, adapt to rapid digital transformation, and navigate increasingly stringent cross border regulatory environments poses practical obstacles to GCP’s continued development. At the same time, these shifting conditions are generating new questions and research directions that are reshaping the future of the field.

To deepen understanding of these ongoing transformations, the 5th International Symposium on Global Chinese Philanthropy adopts the theme “Global Chinese Philanthropy at a Crossroads: Trust, Technology, and Cross-Border Engagement.” The symposium will examine the evolving challenges and opportunities associated with trust building, technological innovation, and increasingly complex cross border regulatory systems.

The symposium is co hosted by the School of Government, Nanjing University (NJU); the Asia Pacific Center, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA); and the Tun Tan Cheng Lock Institute of Social Studies, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Malaysia. This two-day event is co-organized by the NJU Center for Social Security Research and the UCLA Asia Pacific Center.
