She holds a BA in Russian Studies from UCLA's Department of Slavic, East European and Eurasian Languages and Cultures with minors in History and Asian Languages. Her senior thesis explores late 19th century attitudes in the Russian Empire towards islands and representations of penal colonialism on Sakhalin Island in the writings of Anton Chekhov. She is interested in the Russian Far East, Korean diaspora in the former Soviet Union, and island studies.
