Glen M. Sproul dit MacDonald is an international authority on the environmental effects of climate change and drought. Dr. MacDonald, Chair of the UCLA Canadian Studies Program, is an UCLA Distinguished Professor of Geography and of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, and the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability. He is the UCLA Geography John Muir Memorial Chair. His areas of interest are climate change, environmental change, drought and water resources, and coastal wetlands. Dr. MacDonald has researched environmental change across the globe in places such as the southwestern United States, Canada, Mexico, Egypt, Syria, India, West Africa, Russian Eurasia and the Arctic. He is a Member of the National Academy of Sciences, a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union, a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, a Guggenheim Fellowship award winner, recipient of the UCLA Distinguished Teaching Award
