Donations to the International Institute provide immediate funds for its centers and programs. Donations can take the form of outright or deferred gifts and pledges (the assets of which are irrevocable and can include cash, securities, real property, tangible personal property or other non-monetary assets).
The alternatives below offer you an opportunity to make an immediate donation, create a gift that generates a lifetime income, or bestow a larger gift that provides important tax benefits.

Gifts of Securities
A gift of long-term appreciated marketable securities helps you save taxes twice. Such a gift provides an income-tax charitable deduction and a capital-gains tax savings. For the Gift of Stock Instruction Sheet, please click here.
Note: Always discuss donations with your tax consultant to maximize your benefits. Please notify us of your intention to transfer shares by contacting the International Institute Development Office our office at 310-206-9229. Bequests, Planned Gifts and/or Gift Annuities
Planned gifts are gift arrangements with specific tax advantages that often include lifetime income to a beneficiary or beneficiaries named by the donor. Many of these arrangements, such as gift annuities, charitable trusts or certain real estate donations, allow you to hold an interest in the gift during your lifetime or for a specified number of years. After that time, the funds become available to the UCLA International Institute.
In writing a will or living trust, donors can specify that they would like their estate to benefit the UCLA International Institute and/or its centers and programs. Donors whose gifts will be managed by The UCLA Foundation must specifically state in their wills or living trusts that their gifts be made to The Foundation. Click here for sample bequest language.
For information on how to include the UCLA International Institute in your estate plans, please contact the UCLA Office of Gift Planning at (800) 737-8252 or find more information on the UCLA Gift Planning website. You can also receive advice on how to make such a gift to a center within the International Institute, by contacting the Institute's Development Office, at 310-206-9229.
Gifts of Real Estate
When you gift your home or property to the UCLA International Institute, you may claim an income-tax charitable deduction based on the full market value of the property, avoid capital gains taxes and eliminate certain costs associated with the transfer of real property. Gifts of real estate can also provide income to you if designated as a gift with retained interest.
To find out more on how to make a gift of Real Estate to the UCLA International Institute, please contact the Development Office at 310-206-9229.
Qualified Retirement Plans
Naming The UCLA International Institute as a beneficiary of your qualified retirement plan (IRA, KEOGH, 401(k) or 403(b)) may be particularly advantageous; doing so may result in more assets being passed on to your heirs than if you make a bequest from other funds in your estate. For information on how to incorporate UCLA International Institute into your estate and retirement planning, please contact our Development Office at (310) 206-9229.
Matching Gifts
Your employer may sponsor matching gift programs for contributions to charitable organizations, including The UCLA Foundation. Some companies even match gifts made by retirees and/or their spouses. Before making your contribution, find out if your employer matches charitable gifts by checking our database. You receive full credit for your matching gifts for the purpose of recognition and benefits, with the matched portion of the gift recorded on the corporation's record.
Wire Transfers
Wire transfers are most commonly used for gifts made from outside the United States. Banks provide minimal information with wire transfers, so please notify the UCLA International Institute’s Development Office (310) 206-9229, in advance to ensure that your intended gift is processed correctly. Click here to access instructions for the required Wire Transfer Instruction Form, listed below.
